Nighttime Questions

X Bedtime Mummy Questions

A few nights ago X had another naughty spell before bed, which isn’t too unusual. The outcome of this was a “Right, no stories then you can go straight to bed” from both of us. He finally got into bed and asked for a story, I’d said night night to him and gone downstairs and I could hear B go into say night night afterwards.

“One story mum?”

“No, you were messing around too much before bed so no stories tonight”

“Pleeeaaase”

“No, but if you like you can ask mummy some questions”.

This is one of X’s little things he does at the moment which is lovely to be honest. Usually it’s when he going to bed when he wants to try and stay up a big longer. They are usually “How many night until Christmas / birthday / Peppa pig world?” or “Seeing F tomorrow?” or “Seeing G tomorrow” (F and G are his cousins).

“Story?” Asked X again.

“No monkey. I’ve already said you can ask mummy some questions instead if you like.”

“Hmmmm. Don’t know… What would you like for Christmas?”

To be honest there was a bit of a pause here, because I think it threw B a bit. To be fair we’ve been asking him this every day for about a week, especially when he went to see Father Christmas.

“Mummy would like a new jumper”

“You’ve got a jumper already!”

“Yes, but mummy would like a new one, with a hood”

“You’ve got hood already!”

“Yes, but I’d like a new one with a hood. And some new slippers.”

“You’ve got slippers already!”

“Mummy wants new ones. Okay, mummy wants some chocolate”

“Hmmm, I like chocolate. Can I have chocolate for Christmas too?”

I guess if we’re going to ask him what he wants, and say “No, you’ve already got one” or “No, you don’t need that” and “No, that’s too big”, we have to expect the same thing in return.
