Cards For Trees

Cards For Trees

B has managed to finish setting up the website for her new venture! It’s called Cards For Trees, it’s an online card shop where 50% of profits will go to tree planting programmes.

B has always wanted to contribute to the income in our house but has always found it difficult because of her mental health problems and chronic fatigue. She did attempt working at a supermarket and a toy shop not long after we got together but it didn’t really work out. If B would wake up really anxious it would sometimes make her bad enough to not go in, which would then require phoning them up to let them know, which would just make her even worse (Yes, they had a policy where I could not phone up on her behalf). When at work she would struggle and daft manager stating regulations regarding “You’re not due to take a break yet” and “There isn’t time to get water now” just made it impossible. We had several incidents where she would just become unwell and I would have to go and collect her from work.

She still looks into further training options to see if there were other “real” jobs she could go and do but the thought of having to travel, or work with people, or use the telephone makes it a really frightening prospect.

B also has a wish to help people, some of this is born from her experiences where she feels she’s been “taking and not giving back” from the universe. Either way, this is why she is going to donate half of her profits to charity and given it is a card shop, donations to plant trees seems the most apt.

She always doubts herself when creating things, so is quite worried about the success of the shop. To be honest we share this particular trait, we’re both usually convinced “If I did it, it can’t be that good”… but we’re working on it! We’re lucky that when she is trying to sort things out on the website, or on Facebook or Twitter etc I am “technically skilled”. This means I can often figure out why something isn’t quite working, or can find an alternative way of getting it done. Or at least I can justify us getting really annoyed and blame the system we’re trying to use as being rubbish! I think this can help sometimes in circumstances where she would of just hit a wall and stressed herself out that something wasn’t working.

Generally, B is “better” when she is doing something and she genuinely does want to be doing things during the day. Her inablity do get something done is typically not through laziness but due to her brain telling her she cannot achieve it anyway, tiredness or her brain simply getting out of control when attempting to so it. A classic example of this can be washing up, she’ll often find her mind wandering when she attempts to get a load of it done and so will therefore not even bother attempting it. Not because she can’t be bothered but because she knows her brain might misbehave whilst she is doing so. Therefore, we’re hoping that if she can get CardsForTrees up and running she’ll be able to: Contribute, Give Back and Have something to do.

Please go over and take a look at her website at www.CardsForTrees.co.uk, she has put in a lot of effort so it would be great it people would at least see what it’s all about. You could also check out her Facebook and Twitter pages associated with the site. Thanks Everyone!

Your details popped up on Facebook as a sponsored link this morning and reading your blog has struck a chord with me as Im an anxiety sufferer, chronic morning anxiety and daily panic attacks. Ive been running 2 online businesses for the past 10 years, one is a craft shop on Facebook/Etsy . I cant function in a ‘normal’ job and have phone phobia too After years of counselling, meds, online programmes, I’d pretty much given up, and then a sponsored link popped up just like yours and I came across Nichola Bird’s ‘A Little Peace of Mind’ http://www.alittlepeaceofmind.co.uk – I hope it might help your wife too ! I’ll pop over to Cards For Trees with a new like and make a new connection. Mel (The Little Paper Flower Shop: http://www.etsy.com/shop/PaperFlowersBouquets).

Thank you so much for your comment Mel, I’ve shown the link to my wife and she’s taking a look at it now. It’s nice to know that there are other people out there who have been able to start finding their way regardless of whatever difficulties they might have.
